Holy Grail or Psychobabble . Your Choice!
The other day whilst browsing one of the popular forums I saw a post entitled:
“Does anyone know a system that works?”
The poster was asking if anyone knew of a profitable Betfair trading system and only wanted the facts.
In his words
“Just the rules without any of the psychobabble that normally accompanies them!”
Now to me the poster has completely missed the point. I believe that no matter how good a system is, if the mindset of the person operating the system is not right then long term the system will fail.
When I looked at the replies to his question, the vast majority were of the same opinion as me.
I think that the reason that the majority of punters fail is that they are not prepared to put the time and effort into learning all of the facets of becoming a professional sports investor.
The simple fact that the poster was asking that particular question says to me that he is looking for a short cut to the holy grail of betting so that he can earn big money with little effort. Do you think he will be successful?
I think that the barrage of clever advertising by systems sellers preaching the gospel of big gains for little effort can have an insidious affect on all but the most disciplined of us sports investors.
I am not saying that we should not be looking for new angles, in fact completely the opposite, it is my opinion that the only way we can become successful is to put the time and effort into learning all the different disciplines of our craft, so that little by little we get better at it.
I even think that some of the rubbish systems on sale can be very helpful to our sports investing education. My idea is that if I can read the system from cover to cover and instantly recognise the faults in the system seller’s arguments, then I must be becoming more knowledgeable on my chosen subject.
Some people reading this may think that I am already a successful sports investor, well I am not at the moment, but I believe that if we want to become successful sports investors, we need to start thinking and acting like one of them as soon as possible.
I hope you have enjoyed reading this post.
As usual any comments or questions appreciated.
Wishing you good luck
Mark
